Learning at Ontrack

Our Approach to Learning

At Ontrack College, learning is personal, purposeful, and focused on giving students the skills they need to re-engage with education and prepare for life after Year 10. Every student learns at a level that matches their current abilities, supported through an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and a customised learning pathway.

Our academic program aligns with the Australian Curriculum (v9.0) and emphasises the core areas that matter most: literacy, numeracy, and essential workplace and life skills that empower students to move forward with confidence.

What Students Learn at Ontrack

At Ontrack College, learning centres on three essential areas.

English

English

Students develop literacy skills that support confidence and success across all learning areas. Teaching is personalised to each student’s current ability level, helping them strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. Small classes and targeted support allow students to fill gaps from earlier years, build independent learning habits, and apply literacy skills in real-world contexts.

Maths

Maths

Students learn at a level that matches their current skills, not just their year level. The program strengthens numeracy through clear instruction, hands-on practice, and achievable steps that rebuild confidence. Students develop essential number skills, problem-solving, and practical maths for everyday situations—forming a strong foundation for future schooling and work.

Workplace Skills

Workplace Skills

Students also build practical, personal, and social skills that prepare them for life beyond Year 10. Learning aligns with the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities—such as communication, teamwork, organisation, digital skills, and resilience—helping students develop the confidence and habits needed for future schooling, training, or work.

Personalised Learning Pathways (IEPs)

Every student has an Individual Education Plan that outlines:

  • their current learning levels

  • specific literacy and numeracy goals

  • personal and behavioural goals

  • wellbeing and engagement supports

  • short-term and long-term targets

IEPs are reviewed regularly to ensure students continue progressing and receiving the right support at the right time.

Preparing Students for Life After Year 10

Ontrack College helps students build the academic, social, and practical skills they need to step confidently into their next stage of education or training. As students grow in literacy, numeracy, independence, and everyday life skills, they are supported to explore suitable options for their future.

After completing Year 10, students may transition into:

  • senior secondary schooling

  • vocational education and training

  • apprenticeships or traineeships (outside Ontrack)

  • employment readiness or community programs

  • other pathways that reflect their goals and abilities

Our focus is helping every student leave Ontrack with stronger skills, clearer direction, and confidence in their next steps.
